Wolves plan to sign Manchester City midfielder Tommy Doyle permanently says Gary O’Neil

Wolves plan to activate a purchase option to make on-loan Manchester City midfielder Tommy Doyle a permanent Wolves player, head coach Gary O’Neil has confirmed.

The 22-year-old has made 22 Premier League appearances, including 10 starts, since joining Wolves on loan from City last summer.

Now Wolves are preparing to take up an option to buy Doyle for £4.3million this summer.

“I would expect him to be here next year,” said O’Neil. “Hopefully we can get that done fairly quickly in the summer. “I know he feels settled and I know he’s enjoying it.

“We’re delighted with how he’s done, so I don’t foresee any issues with that one being done.”

Doyle joined Wolves in a deal that coincided with Matheus Nunes’s £53million move from Molineux to City.

Although the deals were not linked officially, the low purchase price for Doyle is understood to have formed part of the parallel negotiations.

The permanent move would include a clause entitling City to 50 per cent the profit from any subsequent sale.

Assessing Doyle’s form for Wolves this season, O’Neil said: “He’s been able to show his real strengths in certain moments, especially when we’re able to dominate the ball, he gives us something.

“Joao Gomes and Mario Lemina have had fantastic seasons, so the fact Tommy has managed to impact it as well as he has, with them two doing as well as they have, tells you how well Tommy has performed.”
