Manchester City’s Ederson expected to return from injury before end of season

Ederson Injury

Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson is expected to return before the end of the season after scans showed he did not sustain a serious injury against Nottingham Forest.

The 30-year-old was replaced at half-time in City’s 2-0 victory on Sunday following a collision with Forest defender Willy Boly and was seen leaving the City Ground with his left arm in a sling. Pep Guardiola was initially unable to give an update on the severity of his injury but said it “did not look good”.

Ederson remains a doubt for City’s Premier League fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, but beyond that he could return for City’s final three matches in the Premier League title run-in.

Guardiola’s side have trips to Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur to navigate before the visit of West Ham United on the final day of the season on May 19.

City are one point behind Premier League leaders Arsenal, but have a game in hand over Mikel Arteta’s side.

City then finish the 2023-23 campaign at Wembley against Manchester United in the FA Cup final on May 25.

Stefan Ortega deputised for City in Ederson’s place on Sunday, having featured four times in the Premier League across March and April when the Brazil international was sidelined with a thigh injury. He has played in all five of City’s FA Cup fixtures this season and is likely to start against United at Wembley.
