Wolves defender Yerson Mosquera is facing scans this week amid fears he could have suffered a serious knee injury in this afternoon’s defeat at Aston Villa.
Mosquera left the field on a stretcher after a challenge by Villa forward Morgan Rogers caused his left knee to twist awkwardly.
Medics placed his knee in a brace and he was being assessed in the Villa Park treatment room after the game with head coach Gary O’Neil admitting fears of a lengthy lay-off for the Colombia international.
“We have no real information, but it just doesn’t look good at this moment,” admitted O’Neil.“It was obviously a big blow in the game for us with the time it came. And it would be a big blow for us to lose him for a significant amount of time.
“He plays in an area of the pitch that we are already short in and he was performing at a very high level for us in that area. Off the back of the back of the transfer window closing, it’s not an area that we could afford to lose someone in.
“Hopefully it’s not as bad as feared, but it’s not good at this moment.”
Mosquera has started all five of Wolves’ Premier League games this season after returning in the summer following loans in MLS and La Liga last season.
Fellow centre-back Toti is already sidelined with a hamstring injury with the Portugal international due to be assessed this week ahead of the weekend’s meeting with Liverpool at Molineux.
Wolves midfielder Boubacar Traore will be sidelined until Christmas following surgery to repair a knee injury.
The 23-year-old Mali international injured his knee in last month’s Carabao Cup victory at home to Burnley and Wolves have now received a clearer timescale on his recovery following successful surgery.
