Warfel Construction broke ground in May on the $36 million Acadia Geisinger Behavioral Health Hospital in Danville, Pennsylvania, according to a news release.
The East Petersburg, Pennsylvania-based construction firm is building the 72,578-square-foot medical facility for Acadia Healthcare and the Geisinger Health System, a regional healthcare provider to Pennsylvania. The project will introduce 96 new patient beds and will serve more than 1.2 million people across 45 counties in Pennsylvania, according to the release.
The new hospital aims to address the growing need for behavioral health services in the region, providing critical care for individuals struggling with a range of mental health conditions including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis and post-traumatic stress disorder. The facility will ultimately serve adults, adolescents and pediatric patients.
In addition to providing essential healthcare services, the hospital will also function as a teaching facility, training students and residents from Geisinger’s College of Health Sciences, a private medical school associated with the health system. This dual role underscores Geisinger’s goal to advance patient care and the long-term education of healthcare professionals.
“More than just a new building, this behavioral health hospital is a testament to our dedication to nurturing a better, healthier community,” said Rusty Hoffman, project executive at Warfel, in the release.
The project marks the second partnership between Warfel Construction, Acadia Healthcare and Geisinger in the development of behavioral health hospitals. The trio opened a similar facility in Moosic, Pennsylvania, in August 2023, according to the release.
Warfel expects to complete construction by the spring of 2025, according to the contractor.
