Democratic strategist and CNN commentator Van Jones said Vice President Harris put former President Trump “in his place” during Tuesday evening’s presidential debate.

“She really was speaking for the people. I think the right wing may not see it, but she kept coming back to a middle-class background. He kept talking about himself and himself, he went down every rabbit hole imaginable,” Jones said on a CNN panel following the debate.

“Kamala Harris did something great for every parent in America. She put the bully in his place,” he added.

Harris and Trump met for the first time on the debate stage in Philadelphia, where they spared over key issues like abortion and immigration. In an overnight poll, most Americans said Harris won the debate, after repeatedly baiting Trump into shouting and spreading conspiracy theories.

Jones argued “she just whooped him,” later adding, “she spanked him.”

“People have wanted to see somebody put this bully in his place and people have watched contender after contender fail to put him in his place,” he said. “She got up there and she put him in his place.”

When needled Trump, a stark contrast emerged where Harris kept her cool as Trump become visibly angry and refused to make eye contact with his opponent.

Ahead of Tuesday’s debate, Jones said the event will serve as a “job interview” for Harris because she needed to make her case to the American people. He called Trump a “class clown” and said Harris needed to focus on herself.

“Not only did she pass the commander-in-chief test, he failed it. He failed it,” Jones said following the debate.
