Daniel Brown, the tournament’s 18-hole leader, enters the final round of his debut major just one stroke out of first place.
The last Englishman to win in his major championship debut was Horace Rawlins at the 1895 U.S. Open. Rawlins died in 1935, 59 years before Brown was born.
Another interesting note regarding Brown’s bid is that the last major held at Royal Troon, the 2020 AIG Women’s Open, was won by Sophia Popov, who was ranked 304th prior to that!
