The film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s It Ends With Us has people talking. And the forthcoming adaptation of Verity is highly anticipated. But the next Colleen Hoover adaptation to hit theaters will be Regretting You. The upcoming film is based on Hoover’s 2019 contemporary romance novel of the same name. But what can we expect from the movie? And when will it come out? Read on for all the details!

Regretting You follows the story of Morgan Grant and her sixteen-year-old daughter Clara. Morgan had Clara when she was very young, and she would do anything to prevent Clara from making the same mistakes she once did. Clara also hopes she grows up to be nothing like her boring, predictable mother. The two are always at odds with each other. The only one who is able to keep the peace between them is Morgan’s husband Chris. But when Chris is involved in a terrible accident, Morgan and Clara’s lives change forever.
The rights for Regretting You went to film producer Anna Todd (After) all the way back in 2019, but when the film industry shut down a lot of productions during the pandemic, the project was delayed. Constantin Film is producing the film, Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) directs, and the script was written by Susan McMartin (After) and Colleen Hoover. Also attached as producers alongside Anna Todd are Robert Kulzer, Brunson Green, and Flavia Viotti.

“When I read Regretting You I was captivated by the characters and knew we needed a partnership with an amazing cast to make it real,” director Josh Boone told Deadline. “I’m thrilled to be joined by old friends and new to bring Colleen Hoover’s novel to the screen. I’ve been working for several years with the incredible team at Constantin, and my producers Brunson, Anna, and Flavia, and our plan is to make a classic that mothers and daughters will cherish for years to come.”
But what actors will bring Colleen Hoover’s characters to life? Allison Williams (M3GAN) will star as Morgan. McKenna Grace (Ghostbusters) stars as Clara. Also starring are James Franco and Mason Thames.
Regretting You began filming in Atlanta earlier this month. The movie is currently set to hit theaters on October 24 of this year.
This is the next on a long list of Colleen Hoover books that are expected to be adapted. Next up, Verity, starring Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson, should be making its way to cinemas sooner rather than later. And Universal will bring Reminders of Him to life in 2026.
