Sundt Construction has promoted company veteran Cade Rowley to president and COO, the Tempe, Arizona-based firm announced on Oct. 1.

In his new role, Rowley will serve as leader of operational strategy and execution, overseeing each of the company’s seven business units, according to a news release from the company. The 134-year-old, employee-owned firm specializes in transportation, industrial, building, concrete and renewable power work.

Previously, Rowley served as president of Sundt’s Industrial Group. He first joined the company in 1998 as a field engineer in the firm’s Heavy Civil (now Transportation) Group and advanced through multiple roles in business development, preconstruction and operations.

Under Rowley’s leadership, Sundt’s expertise has gained recognition in sectors such as water and wastewater, heavy industrial and mining and advanced technology, per the release. Rowley also played a key role in Sundt’s expansion from a regionally focused contractor to one with a national presence with offices and jobsites in more than two dozen states.

Mike Hoover, Sundt’s president and CEO since 2016, will continue to serve as CEO and chair of the board of directors.

“Throughout his 27-year career with Sundt, Cade has demonstrated exceptional adaptability, business acumen and character,” said Hoover in the release. “He is the right leader to help steer Sundt through its next chapter of growth.”

Rowley holds a degree in civil engineering from Arizona State University and is a registered professional engineer, per the release.

He has served on the executive committee for the Arizona chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America and the board of governors and political action committee board of trustees for the national AGC. Rowley is also involved with the Beavers, a heavy civil organization that encourages college students to pursue careers in heavy construction.
