- Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson was picked off on his first pass attempt of the night, which first caromed off the hands of teammate Harrison Bryant and then off the hands of Pittsburgh’s Minkah Fitzpatrick.
- The ball was caught by Steelers linebacker Alex Highsmith, who returned it 30 yards for a touchdown.
- Chris Boswell then converted the extra point to put Pittsburgh up 7-0 less than 10 seconds into the first quarter.

The Athletic’s instant analysis:
Pittsburgh’s offense gets early boost
The Steelers’ offense stumbled out of the gate in Week 1, going three-and-out its first five possessions of the 2023 season. Coming into the game, it was fair to wonder how the offense would respond.
Well, it got a little help from the defense. Even before Kenny Pickett and the offense took the field, Highsmith returned the deflected pass for a pick six. Getting out to a quick start takes some pressure off the offense. At the same time, a Browns team used to relying on its ground-and-pound offense may need to do more than just hand the ball to Nick Chubb. — DeFabo
