Milan’s Kyle Walker is set for an extended spell on the sidelines after undergoing surgery on his right elbow.
The club confirmed that Walker, on loan from Manchester City, fractured his elbow on Tuesday but did not put a timeframe on his recovery.
“To ensure better healing and optimise recovery time, the player underwent surgery in Milan to repair the olecranon through osteosynthesis,” Milan said in a statement. “The operation went perfectly to plan. Kyle will begin rehabilitation immediately.”
Walker signed for Milan on loan in January after seven and a half seasons at City, with an option to make the move permanent. Manager Pep Guardiola confirmed that Walker had asked to leave the club earlier that month.
Walker has made 319 appearances for City, where he won six Premier League titles and the 2023 Champions League, among a host of other trophies.
The 34-year-old right-back made his Milan debut on February 2 against city rivals Inter, playing every minute of the 1-1 draw.
Walker has made 12 appearances under Sergio Conceicao at Milan, who are struggling in Serie A and sitting ninth in the table.
Last month, Thomas Tuchel named Walker in his first squad as England head coach, with the defender featuring in World Cup qualifying victories over Albania and Latvia at Wembley Stadium and earning his 94th and 95th caps. He made his debut for the senior side in 2011 under Fabio Capello.
Walker joins fellow right-back Emerson Royal on the sidelines at Milan, with the former Tottenham Hotspur defender currently out with a calf injury.
Alex Jimenez, 19, is a candidate to replace Walker in Milan’s lineup. Conceicao also has Alessandro Florenzi, 34, available, though he has not featured yet this season after returning in March from a cruciate ligament tear.
Milan return to action on Friday with a trip to Udinese.
