Michigan lands 4-star CB Shamari Earls, flipping commit from Georgia

Shamari Earls, a four-star cornerback and the No. 87 player in the 247Sports composite rankings, has flipped his commitment from Georgia to Michigan.

Earls was the second player to flip to the Wolverines on Friday. They also landed a commitment from Benny Patterson, a three-star defensive lineman who was previously committed to Cincinnati.

Earls, who hails from Chester, Va., originally committed to Georgia in July but was back on Michigan’s campus last weekend after visiting Ann Arbor over the summer. At 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds, he profiles as an outside corner who could help fill the shoes of Will Johnson if Johnson declares for the NFL Draft.

“I am excited for the future and to be a part of coach Sherrone Moore’s vision for sustained success and coach (LaMar) Morgan’s vision for the secondary to be the most competitive and disciplined secondary in the country,” Earls wrote on social media.

Georgia’s class, which sits at No. 3 in the composite rankings, isn’t hurting for talent. Earls is the fifth top-100 player in Michigan’s class, which moved up to No. 13.
