Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho has withdrawn from Argentina’s squad for their October World Cup qualifiers due to a knee injury.
Garnacho was one of 27 players named in Lionel Scaloni’s squad for the matches against Venezuela on October 10 and Bolivia five days later.
However, it was confirmed by the Argentine Football Association (AFA) that Garnacho had been ruled out of their upcoming games due to “discomfort” in his left knee.
“I’ve had knee problems for the last two games and I’m not able to be with the national team, but I hope to recover quickly and be with them for the next matches,” Garnacho posted on Instagram.
The 20-year-old, who netted 10 goals in the 2023-24 campaign, played the full 90 minutes in United’s 0-0 draw against Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday.
He has made 11 appearances for Erik ten Hag’s side across all competitions this season, scoring four goals and assisting three times.
Garnacho has been capped seven times by Argentina and featured in their 3-0 victory over Chile in September. He was also part of Scaloni’s side that won the 2024 Copa America in the summer.
Argentina have no shortage of attacking options for October’s matches including Lionel Messi, Lautaro Martinez, Paulo Dybala and Julian Alvarez.
