Manchester United sign Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich

Manchester United have completed the signing of Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich.

United reached an agreement with the Bundesliga club for a deal worth €15million (£12.8m, $16.5m) plus €5m (£4.3m, $5.5m) in add-ons.

The 26-year-old Morocco international has signed a four-year deal at Old Trafford with the option for an additional 12 months.

He is joined in Manchester by former Bayern team-mate Matthijs de Ligt, whose move to Old Trafford was announced earlier on Tuesday.

“It’s an incredible feeling to be a Manchester United player, and I cannot wait to walk out at Old Trafford wearing the red shirt,” said Mazraoui.

He added: “Erik ten Hag played an important part in my development as a player, so it is exciting to be reuniting with him as I enter the prime years of my career. I know what he expects from his players, and I will give everything to help the group be successful.”

Sporting director Dan Ashworth said: “Noussair is a dynamic, attacking full-back who can play on both the right and left side of defence. His experience and versatility will make him an excellent addition to our squad.

“Having already won a number of trophies in his career, we know that Noussair’s winning mentality will be a real asset to the group as we work together to deliver the success required of Manchester United.”

Mazraoui’s move was facilitated by Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s exit from the club on Tuesday. The former Crystal Palace defender completed his move to West Ham United in a £15million ($19.2m) deal.

Diogo Dalot was the Erik ten Hag’s preferred right-back last season with Wan-Bissaka often deputising at left-back for Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia — both of whom had long-term injuries.

Mazraoui played 29 times for Bayern last season amid several minor injury issues. Germany international Joshua Kimmich was instead the preferred choice at right-back, with Mazraoui also getting minutes on the left side of defence.

That is where Mazraoui predominantly features at international level for Morocco, with Paris Saint-Germain’s Achraf Hakimi the African nation’s first-choice right-back.
