Leicester complete Bilal El Khannouss signing

Leicester City have completed the signing of Morocco attacking midfielder Bilal El Khannouss from Genk.

The Athletic reported Leicester were hopeful of concluding the signing after the two clubs agreed a £19million fee for El Khannouss.

The 20-year-old has signed a four-year deal that runs until 2028.

“I’m very happy,” El Khannouss said. “Leicester City is a big club in England and it’s always a dream for a young guy like me to play in the Premier League so I’m very excited and I hope to achieve big things here.

“I talked with the manager, and I immediately had a good feeling with the club. I’m really excited to meet my team-mates, to make great things with them and I hope win a lot of games too.”

Khannouss is Leicester’s eighth summer signing and will provide options in the No 10 role behind the main striker in Steve Cooper’s preferred 4-2-3-1 system.

The deal takes Leicester’s spending to £80m this summer as the club tries stay within profit and sustainability rules.

El Khannouss joined Genk from Anderlecht in 2019 and has made 94 appearances for the club in all competitions.

He featured on 51 occasions last season, providing three goals and eight assists.

El Khannouss has been capped 14 times by Morocco at senior international level and was part of the squad that reached the semi-finals at the 2022 World Cup, featuring once in the third place play-off at the tournament.

Leicester have begun their season with a draw and a victory in the Premier League and return to action on Saturday against Crystal Palace.
