Jamie Vardy apologises to Leicester fans for 's*** show' relegation season

Jamie Vardy has apologised to Leicester City fans for a “total embarrassment” of a season that has resulted in relegation and ended as a “s*** show”.

The club’s drop from the Premier League back to Championship was confirmed on Sunday after a 1-0 defeat at home to Liverpool. It was their ninth home match in a row without a goal, an English record.

After such a demoralising season, the future of Vardy, manager Ruud van Nistelrooy and several of the first-team squad are up in the air as the club deals with a second relegation in three seasons.

In a social media post on Monday, Vardy, who joined Leicester in 2012 and spearheaded the club’s shock Premier League title win in 2016, said: “At this point, I don’t even know what to say. No words I have can ever express my feelings of anger and sadness with the way this season has gone. There are no excuses.

“Collectively, as players and as a club, we failed. There is simply no hiding, and I refuse to entertain any suggestion of doing so.

“Having been at this club for so long, we’ve experienced so many highs and successes — and this season has been nothing but miserable and for me personally, a total embarrassment. It hurts, and I know you’re feeling it too.

“To the fans: I’m sorry. Sorry we haven’t performed, and sorry we end the 2025 season with such a s**t show.”

As well as uncertainty over Vardy and Van Nistelrooy’s future, sections of the fanbase have called for a change of ownership and aimed particular criticism at director of football Jon Rudkin, who they see as playing a key part in the club’s recent troubles.

Leicester won a legal battle against the EFL and the Premier League last year over an alleged breach of profitability and sustainability rules, but that issue remains in an arbitration process and the EFL is likely to be looking at imposing sanctions on the club when they officially become a Championship club.
