One day after stating publicly that the Columbus Blue Jackets were “probably two forwards short” of an NHL-worthy lineup, general manager Don Waddell took steps to remedy that.
Veteran left winger James van Riemsdyk, 35, signed a one-year, $900,000 contract with the Blue Jackets, who open training camp with physicals on Wednesday.
Van Riemsdyk, who spent last season with Boston — he had 12 goals and 27 assists in 72 games — has played 1,011 games with Philadelphia, Toronto and Boston.
