Ivan Perisic joins PSV on free transfer

PSV Eindhoven have signed Croatia international Ivan Perisic on a free transfer.

The Dutch club announced on Wednesday the signing of the 35-year-old on a contract until the summer of 2025.

Perisic, who boasts 747 career appearances, joins PSV shortly after the close of the transfer window and will be available to play immediately.

The veteran winger, who has 136 caps for Croatia and played in the 2018 World Cup final, joins after his contract at boyhood club Hajduk Split was terminated by mutual consent.

“Since I have been a free agent, I have been waiting for an option like this: a club and environment where I feel comfortable and where I can win prizes,” Perisic said.

“I asked my former team-mate Denzel Dumfries for advice, and that has only convinced me that PSV is the right step. I can’t wait to get started, give it my all and win prizes.”

PSV director of football affairs, Earnest Stewart, added: “To have that much match experience you have to be a good player, who is almost always fit. Otherwise you don’t come close to that. With the imminent departure of Hirving Lozano there was a vacancy on the wing, but he can play in many different positions. With Ivan we kill several birds with one stone.”

Perisic began his senior career with France’s Sochaux before being loaned to Belgium’s Roeselare in 2009. He went on to play for a number of clubs, including Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan, Bayern Munich, and Tottenham Hotspur.

PSV currently sit top of the Eredivisie standings with 15 points from five matches and will face Fortuna Sittard this Sunday.
