Inter win Serie A title after 2-1 victory over rivals AC Milan


Inter have won the Serie A title after their 2-1 victory over rivals AC Milan in the Derby della Madonnina.

Inter took the lead in the 18th minute after defender Benjamin Pavard flicked on a header to an on-rushing Francesco Acerbi, who guided a header past goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

Simone Inzaghi’s side made it 2-0 five minutes into the second half after striker Marcus Thuram drove inside front the left wing and hit a driven shot inside the post and past the Milan keeper.

Fikayo Tomori’s 79th-minute header made it 2-1. As Milan pushed for an equaliser, Inter defender Denzel Dumfries and Milan’ Theo Hernandez were both shown red cards for an altercation in the 92nd minute.

Mian captain Davide Calabria was also shown a red card five minutes later after appearing to hit Inter’s Davide Frattesi in the face during a corner.

The away side held on for their sixth consecutive derby victory over their rivals to clinch the title at San Siro with five league games left to play.

Inter have been a dominant force in Serie A this season, having scored the most goals (79) and conceded the least (18) in the division.

The championship victory is Inter’s 20th in the club’s history, one more than Milan’s 19 league victories. It is Inter’s first title victory since the 2020-21 season.

Inter are next in action against against Torino on Saturday.
