F1 Hungarian GP live updates: Lando Norris on pole for Sunday's race in Budapest

The Hungarian Grand Prix weekend has been a good microcosm of the 2024 F1 season. A peaceful Friday of practice gave way to a Saturday qualifying session bothered by intermittent rain, consequential mistakes and a fresh chapter in the brewing McLaren and Red Bull rivalry.

So, as so often has been the case this season, we head into Sunday expecting a fun two hours of F1 racing.

It’s Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri on the front row, the first time since 2012 that McLaren has locked out the first two positions in qualifying. It’s a gritted-teeth Max Verstappen starting in third, obviously hungry to bury the competition that has finally begun to take the fight to Red Bull. It’s his teammate, Sergio Pérez, suddenly fighting for his future at the team after another qualifying disappointment. It’s the looming battle between Lewis Hamilton and the two Ferraris for points in the top five. And it’s a whole slew of mid-pack and backmarker drivers with something to prove as the game of 2025 driver market musical chairs begins to close. It’s the summer break looming, with statements to make before the sport takes a much-needed break.

It’s Round 13 of a 2024 F1 season that remains unrelenting – in the best possible ways. Thanks for joining our live coverage as we lead up to Sunday’s race.
