Colts to host NFL's first regular-season game in Berlin

The Indianapolis Colts will host the NFL’s first regular-season game in Berlin next season, the league said Wednesday.

The game will be played at the Olympic Stadium, and the Colts’ opponent will be announced when the 2025 NFL schedule is revealed this spring. It marks Indianapolis’ return to Germany; in 2023, the team held off the New England Patriots in a 10-6 win in Frankfurt.

“The NFL is making history in Berlin, and the Colts are proud to be part of this landmark event in one of the world’s most historic cities,” Colts owner Jim Irsay said in a statement. “The NFL has become a global brand, and we’re looking forward to growing American football in Germany and expanding Colts Nation’s footprint around the world.”

The NFL has a history at the Olympic Stadium. It played five American Bowl games (a series of international preseason exhibition games) at the venue between 1990 and 1994. The stadium was also home to the Berlin Thunder of the now-defunct NFL Europe from 2003 to 2007.

The NFL will play up to eight games outside the United States in 2025. Five are confirmed, with three in London, one in Berlin and another in Madrid. The league recently announced that the Cleveland Browns and the New York Jets will host games at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and the Jacksonville Jaguars will play host at Wembley Stadium.

The NFL will announce the remaining host teams and cities for 2025’s international slate ahead of the full schedule release.
