Indianapolis Colts starting quarterback Anthony Richardson will likely miss his second straight game Sunday against the Tennessee Titans due to a right oblique injury. Richardson will serve as Indianapolis’ emergency third quarterback Sunday.
Veteran backup Joe Flacco will make his second consecutive start in Richardson’s absence.
Richardson was a limited participant in practice Wednesday, a full participant Thursday and regressed to being a limited participant again Friday. He suffered the injury in Week 4 against the Pittsburgh Steelers
Through two games this season, the 39-year-old Flacco has thrown for 527 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions on a 70 percent completion rate. Flacco was 33-of-44 passing for 359 yards and three touchdowns in the Colts’ narrow loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 5.
Richardson has 654 passing yards, three passing touchdowns, six interceptions, 141 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown in four games this year. Although Richardson is now in his second season, the 22-year-old play caller has been limited to just eight games thanks to injuries.
Flacco will at least have Indianapolis’ top receiver in Michael Pittman Jr. on Sunday. Pittman, who has been managing a back injury, will also play after multiple league sources told The Athletic on Wednesday the team was considering placing Pittman on the injured reserve list.
Pittman acknowledged his back “just flares up every now and then,” but quipped Friday, “I don’t feel nothing on Sundays.”
Colts rookie Dalton Tucker will make his first NFL start at right guard, a league source told The Athletic. Tucker replaced starting right guard Will Fries in Indianapolis’ loss last week against the Jaguars after Fries suffered a likely season-ending right tibia injury in the third quarter.
