Christen Press signs 1-year contract extension with Angel City

Two-time Women’s World Cup winner Christen Press signed a one-year contract extension with Angel City, the club announced Friday. Press was Angel City’s first-ever signing on its inaugural roster in 2021.

Press, 36, returned to Angel City’s active roster on July 31, more than two years after tearing her ACL. Press scored two goals in eight games with Angel City in the club’s first NWSL season before sustaining the injury in her right knee. She had four surgeries before returning last season, playing in nine games and scoring one goal.

“LA, it was always you,” said Press, a Los Angeles native, in a team statement. “This city’s strength and resilience inspires me, and I could not be more proud to represent LA — my home city — when I step out onto the pitch this season. To this community of fans, your love and support has gotten me through a lot — we’ve been through a lot together — and I could not be more excited to journey with you for another season! LFG!”

Press has appeared in 112 career NWSL matches, amassing 51 goals and 11 assists in 9,109 minutes on the pitch.

On the international stage, Press won the Women’s World Cup with the U.S. national team in 2015 and 2019. She also won a bronze medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. She has played in 155 games for the national team, amassing 64 goals and 43 assists.
