Chiefs place kicker Harrison Butker on IR, sign Jets' Spencer Shrader as fill-in: Source

The Kansas City Chiefs are placing kicker Harrison Butker on injured reserve due to a left knee injury, a team source confirmed to The Athletic.

The eighth-year veteran will miss at least the next four games and can return as early as Kansas City’s Week 15 road matchup against the Cleveland Browns.

In a corresponding roster move, the Chiefs are signing undrafted rookie kicker Spencer Shrader off the New York Jets’ practice squad as a temporary fill-in for the injured Butker.

Shrader, 25, was one of two placekickers signed by New York on Oct. 30 after veteran Greg Zuerlein was placed on injured reserve. Shrader made both of his field goal attempts in Sunday’s 31-6 loss in Arizona, his first game action with the Jets. He also converted three extra points in Week 1 during his lone game with the Indianapolis Colts, who originally signed the Notre Dame product after April’s 2024 draft.

The Chiefs (9-0) take on the Buffalo Bills (8-2) at Highmark Stadium on Sunday, when morning rain is expected to give way to mostly cloudy skies and temperatures in the mid-40s.
