Carville: WaPost mass cancelations show 'enthusiasm' for Harris

Democratic strategist and cable news pundit James Carville suggested a recent flood of cancelations by subscribers to the Washington Post over its owner’s decision not to endorse a presidential candidate this year is a good sign for Vice President Harris.

“I’m not a predictor on turnout but it seem to me there’s increasing Democratic enthusiasm,” Carville said Monday on MSNBC. “The Washington Post lost 200,000 subscribers. Two-hundred thousand people that actually went and clicked on something and they had to go through some effort. I know it is Virginia, Chevy Chase and D.C., but that tells me a lot.”

The Post has reportedly experienced tens of thousands of cancelations over the weekend after the newspaper announced on Friday it would not endorse Harris or former President Trump in next week’s presidential election.

The decision not to run an endorsement was made by Jeff Bezos, the outlet’s billionaire owner, after the newspaper’s editorial board had already drafted an editorial backing Harris.

Bezos defended his decision to pull the endorsement in a column in the Post late Monday.

“Most people believe the media is biased. Anyone who doesn’t see this is paying scant attention to reality, and those who fight reality lose. Reality is an undefeated champion,” Bezos wrote.

“It would be easy to blame others for our long and continuing fall in credibility (and, therefore, decline in impact), but a victim mentality will not help. Complaining is not a strategy. We must work harder to control what we can control to increase our credibility.”

The decision has led some in the media and political worlds to express outrage that Bezos is using the Post to protect his vast business interests or curry favor with Trump should he win.
