Brentford reviewing incident that saw Plymouth Argyle fan sustain head injury

Brentford are reviewing an incident in which a Plymouth Argyle supporter required hospital treatment for a head injury sustained during their FA Cup third-round tie on Saturday.

The incident took place in the stands at the Gtech Community Stadium as Brentford lost 1-0 to their Championship counterparts.

In the 81st minute of the game, amid celebrations in the away end following Morgan Whittaker’s winner for Plymouth, an elderly visiting supporter was knocked over and banged his head on the ground.

After being assessed by medical staff at the stadium, the supporter was taken to hospital via the on-site ambulance.

“During Saturday’s game, a Plymouth supporter sustained a head injury following their team’s goal,” a Brentford spokesperson told The Athletic.

“Amidst the crowd celebrations, our medical team intervened, adhering to safety protocols to provide care and arrange precautionary hospital treatment.

“We are in contact with Plymouth Argyle to monitor their condition and wish them a full recovery. While confident in our response, we will review the incident in line with our commitment to supporter safety.”

Plymouth, meanwhile, have reached out to the supporter and invited him to the training ground to meet the players and new head coach Miron Muslic as a gesture of goodwill.
