AC Milan complete Emerson Royal transfer from Tottenham

AC Milan have confirmed the signing of right-back Emerson Royal from Tottenham Hotspur.

The Athletic reported last week that a fee of €15million plus €3m in add-ons had been agreed between the clubs for the Brazil international.

Royal made 101 first-team appearances for Spurs over three seasons after joining joining from Barcelona — for whom he made three senior appearances — in a £25.8m (now $33m) deal with add-ons of around £4.3m in the summer of 2021, having previously been on loan at Real Betis for two-and-a-half seasons.

The defender played 24 times for Spurs in the 2023-24 season but made only 13 starts, predominately acting as a deputy to first-choice right-back Pedro Porro and occasionally filling in at left-back.

Spurs have also welcomed full-back Djed Spence back into their first-team squad following his loan spells at Leeds United and Genoa last season.

Royal is Milan’s fourth summer signing after the arrivals of striker Alvaro Morata, centre-back Strahinja Pavlovic and left-back Alex Jimenez.

Paulo Fonseca’s side begin their Serie A campaign at home against Torino on August 17.
