Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-jae is set to miss the next “couple of weeks” with an Achilles injury, Vincent Kompany has confirmed.
Speaking ahead of Saturday’s Bundesliga game against Union Berlin, the Bayern head coach explained the 28-year-old centre-back was set for a short spell on the sidelines.
Bayern confirmed the injury will also keep him out of South Korea’s World Cup Qualifiers against Oman on March 20 and Jordan on March 25.
“Kim is carrying a bit of an injury,” Kompany said. “We hope it’s nothing bad, but he’ll be out for a couple of weeks.
“He’s got problems with his Achilles, which was known already. It’s now about managing his workload. We need to make sure we don’t overwork him. Hopefully it’s not too concerning.”
Kim has been almost an ever-present for Bayern this season, making 37 appearances in all competitions and scoring three goals.
The 69-capped South Korea international played the entirety of the Bayern’s 2-0 Champions League round of 16 second leg victory over Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday.
Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer missed Tuesday’s fixture after being forced off with a calf injury during the first leg of the Champions League tie against Leverkusen. The club confirmed he had returned to the grass and completed a small individual running session for the first time on Friday.
Kompany also spoke of his delight at midfielder Joshua Kimmich signing a new four-year deal with Bayern on Thursday. The 30-year-old had been due to be out of contract in the summer of 2025 and was hesitating over an extension.
Kompany said: “I’m always happy when it’s just about football. That discussion is now over and it’s now just about football. That’s the ideal situation.
“The important thing is what the players do in training, in the changing room and at the weekend. Jo has done very well. I’m pleased for Jo and the club.”
