Canucks trade defenseman Carson Soucy to Rangers for third-round pick: Source

The Vancouver Canucks have traded defenseman Carson Soucy to the New York Rangers for a third-round pick, a league source told The Athletic on Thursday.

The 30-year-old shutdown defender performed well for the Canucks and Seattle Kraken in the postseason the past couple of years and can play on both sides of the ice. He was sixth on The Athletic’s most recent NHL trade board. He has a year left on his contract after this one with a $3.25 million cap hit.

The Canucks recently acquired defenseman Marcus Pettersson from the Pittsburgh Penguins and signed him to a six-year extension, making Soucy available on the trade market.

Vancouver is currently tied with the Calgary Flames for the Western Conference’s second wild-card spot. The Rangers are tied with the Ottawa Senators for the East’s second wild-card spot, but the Senators have a game in hand.
