For the first time in franchise history, the Ravens have drafted a kicker. The Ravens used a sixth-round pick on Arizona’s Tyler Loop in a move that gives the franchise some insurance with the future of current kicker Justin Tucker uncertain.
Tucker is currently the subject of an NFL investigation after a series of stories by The Baltimore Banner revealed that Tucker has been accused of sexual misconduct by 16 massage therapists in the Baltimore area. The Ravens have been monitoring the NFL’s investigation, and they’ve said that they will follow the league’s lead before deciding on the kicker’s future.
Cutting Tucker would create $4.2 million of cap savings if he’s deemed a post-June 1 release. While the addition of Loop certainly doesn’t guarantee that, at the very least, Loop gives the Ravens another option at the position.
Loop punted for Arizona in 2020, but took over as the team’s kicker in 2021. In four seasons, he made 83.8 percent of his field-goal attempts, setting a school record, along with a 98.4 percent conversion rate on extra point attempts.
In his final college season, he made 18-of-23 field-goal attempts and 23-of-25 extra-point tries. He has a huge leg, which was evident in 2024 when he made 6-of-9 field goals from 50-plus, including a school-record 62-yarder in Week 11.
The New England Patriots selected the first kicker of the 2025 NFL Draft a few picks prior, tabbing Miami’s Andres Borregales. Borregales’ 94.7 percent field goal percentage was the fifth-highest in FBS in 2024.
