USMNT striker Brandon Vasquez joins Austin FC from CF Monterrey

Austin FC has completed the signing of USMNT striker Brandon Vasquez from CF Monterrey for a fee worth $10million.

The 26-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the MLS side with the option of an additional 12 months.

“I couldn’t be more excited to join Austin FC,” said Vazquez, who scored as Monterrey eliminated Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami in the last eight of Champions Cup last season.

“Austin FC is an organization with terrific fan support, with big plans for the future. I hope to make an immediate impact this season and help contribute to the success of the club for years to come.”

Having begun his career in Mexico with Club Tijuana, Vasquez spent 18 months at Atlanta United before joining FC Cincinnati in November 2019.

He scored 43 goals in 127 appearances for the club, earning him a move to Liga MX giants Monterrey in January last year, scoring 14 goals in all competitions during his year-long stint in Mexico.

“Brandon has already proven to be a goalscorer in both MLS and Liga MX,” said Austin FC sporting director, Rodolfo Borrell.

“His well-known daily dedication to get prepared for games, his passion for the game, and his determination when he competes were key factors when deciding on bringing him to Austin FC.”

Born in San Diego, he has been capped 11 times for the USMNT, scoring four times, including three goals during the country’s 2023 Gold Cup campaign.
