Sen. Chuck Grassley (Iowa), the incoming Republican chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said Monday he had a “good meeting” with President-elect Trump’s pick for attorney general, Pam Bondi.

“Good mtg w Pres Trump’s nominee for Atty General Pam Bondi As judic chairman I look fwd to considering her nomination in the new congress,” Grassley said in a post on the social platform X.

Grassley’s post featured two photos of him alongside the former Florida attorney general, who Trump announced as his selection to lead the Justice Department late last month, after his previous pick, former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), withdrew from consideration.

“For too long, the partisan Department of Justice has been weaponized against me and other Republicans – Not anymore. Pam will refocus the DOJ to its intended purpose of fighting Crime, and Making America Safe Again. I have known Pam for many years — She is smart and tough, and is an AMERICA FIRST Fighter, who will do a terrific job as Attorney General!“ Trump said on Truth Social on Nov. 21, in announcing the Bondi nomination.

The president-elect’s announcement of Bondi as his attorney general pick resulted in a comparatively enthusiastic response from Republicans, signaling that she faces an easier road to the role than Gaetz, who has been accused of sexual misconduct and had fraught relationships with many other Republicans in Congress.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar (Minn.), a Democratic member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, has said that she hopes Bondi will aim to “uphold the Constitution” if she is confirmed as attorney general.

“Pam Bondi will have a hearing and will be able to make her views clear. I think the things that I look at, is this someone competent? And are they going to uphold the law? It is so important,” Klobuchar told ABC News in late November.

Bondi also met with GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham (S.C.) on Monday.

“She’s a great choice and a longtime friend. The right person at the right time. I look forward to next year,” Graham told reporters.
