New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave was taken off the field on a stretcher after a hit from Carolina Panthers defensive back Xavier Woods on Sunday at Bank of America Stadium. He was ruled out of the game with a concussion.
Woods collided with Olave midway through the first quarter as the Saints receiver reached for a pass from quarterback Derek Carr. Olave was sandwiched in between Woods and defensive back Mike Jackson. The third-year Saints receiver remained on the ground motionless as members of the New Orleans medical staff made their way to tend to him.
After he being placed on the cart, he had movement in his extremities, according to the Saints, and was taken to a Charlotte area hospital for further evaluation. According to the CBS broadcast, Olave is alert at the hospital.
Olave sustained a concussion in team’s Week 6 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He returned from the concussion in Week 8. He’s played in seven games heading into Sunday’s matchup and had 31 catches for 387 yards and a touchdown.
According to ESPN, that was the ninth unnecessary roughness penalty on Panthers’ safety Xavier Woods since entering the NFL in 2017, the most in the league during this span.
