Chelsea captain Reece James returns to training following hamstring injury

Chelsea captain Reece James has returned to training with team-mates following a hamstring injury.

The England international defender has yet to feature this season after picking up the issue following the club’s pre-season tour of the United States.

He has been working his way back to fitness with individual light drills with a minor setback a few weeks ago delaying his return.

It remains to be seen when he is deemed ready to make a comeback to the first team with Malo Gusto deputising at right-back for much of the season and Wesley Fofana and Axel Disasi also utilised by head coach Enzo Maresca.

Chelsea are next in action following the international break against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

James started all of Chelsea’s pre-season friendlies before being withdrawn against Real Madrid and going on to miss the final tune up against Inter Milan in August.

The 24-year-old has struggled with hamstring injuries in recent years and started just five Premier League games last season after having surgery in December to try and cure a problem in his left leg.

Chelsea have enjoyed a positive start to the campaign in James’ absence winning four and drawing two of their seven Premier League games so far.
