Former President Trump mused about a potential “Biden comeback” as he took aim at Vice President Harris for a recent dip in her polling numbers and suggested Democrats might soon seek to replace her atop the party ticket.

“Comrade Kamala Harris goes to an ultra Left Wing, Trump Hating, spice shop, which I hear has terrible, overpriced product, and calls for ‘unity.’ As people begin to realize that she is a Marxist, FAR MORE LIBERAL than Crazy Bernie Sanders, or even Elizabeth ‘Pocahontas’ Warren, her poll numbers are beginning to crash,” Trump said in a Truth Social post on Monday.

“Who are they going to put in next? How about a Biden comeback?” Trump continued.

The latest poll from the New York Times and Siena College showed Harris behind Trump by 1 point, within the poll’s margin of error. Election forecaster Nate Silver also adjusted his forecast to put Trump’s chances of winning at 64.4 percent.

The new results serve a mild blow to Harris’s momentum, which has persisted since soon after she replaced Biden as the party’s prospective nominee.

Harris’s overall performance in the polls remains strong, according to the Decision Desk HQ/The Hill national polling average, which shows Harris leading Trump nationally by 3.2 points, 49.4 percent to 46.2 percent.

The effort to paint Harris as an extreme, liberal candidate comes ahead of the Tuesday debate, which will see the two candidates face off in one of the highest-stakes moments of the campaign so far.

Harris has flocked to the middle on several issues, including on her recent capital gains tax proposal, as she tries to target moderate swing voters in key battleground states.

The Hill has reached out to the Harris campaign for a response.
