Russell Westbrook to join Nuggets on two-year, $6.8 million deal

Russell Westbrook is signing a two-year, $6.8 million contract with the Denver Nuggets, league sources tell The Athletic.

The Nuggets were considered a front-runner to land the 2017 NBA MVP after the LA Clippers traded him to Utah last week. The 35-year-old guard reached a contract buyout with the Jazz shortly after the move.

Westbrook’s deal with Denver includes a player option for the 2025-26 season, league sources said. He had previously picked up the player option on his contract for 2024-25, but the Clippers wanted to find a trade partner for him this offseason.

Westbrook averaged 11.1 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists in 68 games with the Clippers last season. His points and assists numbers were career lows in his 17-year NBA tenure. He also played a career-low 22.5 minutes per game.
